The Anti-Eviction project was presented to the BIP/ZIP with two objectives: on the one hand, the establishment of a technical office for legal support that would respond to specific situations of eviction that could be challenged in court (we set out to monitor 5 cases), and on the other hand, "the development of initiatives that promote a greater connection for all those who live in the territory, in its diversity, enabling the community to make collective decisions concerning the built, and/or by programming collective discussion initiatives that promote access to information.”

This idea was based on the realization that Lisbon is experiencing a violent process of social recomposition; the result of the so-called Rendas Law, which affects all tenants - whether residential or commercial - and it is urgent to find answers that could counteract this reality. The aim was to find ways of building resistance processes and "promoting neighbourhood networks, generating a self-organized community movement, enabling it to make decisions about living in the territory",

Situated in the area of the city called Anjos, and due to its complexity and different social composition, we chose to divide the territory into two distinct zones (while still maintaining the coherence of the project), which we named Anjos de Cima and Anjos de Baixo, being the division made from Rua Maria Andrade.

Project description

The anti-evictions manual whose content results both from the concrete cases that the project intends to monitor, and from the work carried out with the community that inhabits this territory. As for the latter, it is understood both the urban study and the socio-cultural mediation, basing the project on a participatory process that provides tools to everyone who inhabits this part of the city, in order to self-organize and in this way be able to design forms to resist.
