Marvila Antiga | Intergenerational ParkProject

The Intergerational Park of Marvila is part of the BIP/ZIP 2014 support program of the Municipality of Lisbon. The project is aimed at the community of Rua de Marvila, focusing on improving and recognizing their public space.

Rua de Marvila bears witness to the major socio-economic changes in the eastern part of the city of Lisbon. Once occupied by large manor estates dedicated to agricultural exploitation and the industrial reality of the 20th century, it is now a territory surrounded by vacant lots and dilapidated buildings, contributing to its isolation and disregard to the interests and needs of the resident population. The project for this park is developed through a participatory process by those who recognize this territory within its context.

During a meeting with the local population, ideas and projects would contribute to the recognition of Rua de Marvila as the territorial epicenter of the eastern zone of Lisbon were discussed. It was during this meeting that the proposal for an intergenerational park was put forward, encompassing different age groups, from grandparents to grandchildren, with the aim of stimulating social cohesion and intergenerational relationships.

The project, designed and executed by the team from Ateliermob and Colectivo Warehouse, received support from the participation of architecture students from Universidade Lusófona in the construction of the park.

Established on two distinct levels, the project proposes an auditorium space with a recreational area where suitable equipment is installed to accommodate the potential uses of this park.
